Read Across america 2019

Dr. Seuss believed magic existed in books. He created magic himself for countless generations of readers with colorful drawings and fantastical rhymes. March 2 marks his 115th birthday. Lincroft School will celebrate the enduring magic of Seuss with spirited contests and special events.


The Magic of Books!

CONTESTS: Please submit online by 2/22/19.Include first name, grade, and teacher on each entry. Lincroft PTA will judge all contests.

1. Gr.K-5THE MAGIC OF BOOKS PHOTO CONTEST: Send in a photograph via social media (Twitter and/or Instagram) that illustrates how books are magical. Use hashtags #LeopardsDen and #MagicofBooks. Get the whole family in on the action and be creative! One winner from each grade will receive a $10 Barnes & Noble gift card.

2. Gr.K-2COMIC CONTEST: Use FlipGrid to create a picture or cartoon of how/why you think books are magical! OR Choose a book that Brian Curry will present during his assembly (see reverse) and create a cover that includes the title. Winners will receive $25 Barnes & Noble gift cards.

3. Gr. 3-5ESSAY CONTEST: Via FlipGrid, explain how/why books are magical for you. OR Write about a magical adventure you would like to have. Where would you go and what would you do? Use your imagination! OR Choose a book from the list on the back for 3-5 that Brian Curry will present in his “Book Club, The Magic Assembly!” Explain how the author includes magic; what are the most magical parts of the story? How do you feel about it?

Be sure to list the topic you chose. Extra points will be given for accompanying artwork. Winners will receive $25 Barnes & Noble gift cards.

4. CLASS PICTURE CONTEST:Demonstrating how books are magical, each class is challenged to submit a group photo or picture collage via Twitter and/or Instagram. Use hashtags #LeopardsDen and #MagicofBooks. The winning class will receive $25 in Scholastic Bucks for classroom purchases.

BONUS INCENTIVE:The class with the highest participation across all the events in each grade will be awarded a pizza party and $75 in Scholastic Bucks.

MUSTACHE MONDAY 2/25:We “mustache” you to imitate the Lorax today and wear your favorite mustache. Make them if you like and get creative!
*Plus, Cat in the Hat, accompanied by Thing 1 and 2, will greet students as they enter Lincroft School.

TICKLED TOES TUESDAY / BOOK TRADE-IN EVENT 2/26:Show off your silliest socks. Bring in a used book to exchange for something fun you haven’t read.

WACKY WEDNESDAY 2/27:Wear a wacky outfit with as many stripes and colors that you can find, or try and imitate your favorite Seuss character.

*Assemblywoman Serena Dimaso will come in to read to all the kindergarten classes.

THE CAT IN THE “CRAZY” HAT THURSDAY 2/28: Dress in black AND wear a crazy hat. Add whiskers if you like. MEOW!

*Suessical Snack Day: Class reps will organize and deliver a special, healthy Seuss-themed snack for their class. Think something red and white, or Grinch fruit kabobs.

FUN FRIDAY/ CRAZY HAIR DAY 3/1:Wear your most fabulous pajamas for some relaxing in-class reading. Imitate the Whos from Whoville and get creative with crazy hair.

*Reading Buddy Day. Schedule TBA.

TUESDAY, 3/5: Brian Curry, the Book Magician, will conduct two special assemblies for Lincroft students. Check him out at Brian will feature several books in his presentations.

The Variety Show Committee of 2019 is now accepting creative acts for its upcoming Variety Show being held on Thursday April 4, 2019. This years theme will be:


Sing? Dance? Act?

One(1) act per child. Parent/Child acts are welcomed!

Combine your talents with your friends. No Class Acts, Please!

Variety Show Volunteer Opportunity!!

Our Variety Show Committee is looking for 5th graders to help create and design the front and back covers of the 2019 Variety Show Program. Be as creative as you would like keeping the theme of the Variety Show in mind. Please submit your art work on white paper only! Make sure you include your name.
